For some time now, the high-voltage power network around Antwerp has been undergoing a major enhancement and upgrading project. Elia, the network operator, is constructing various new connections, which means that the high-voltage substations also have to be adapted and expanded.
There is nothing to see on the outside, but inside the composting plant at Twence it is bustling with activity. There, the construction of a brand-new composting line is in full swing. Due to the increasing supply of green waste, Twence is expanding its composting capacity significantly. The new plant will also replace the composting line that was destroyed by a fire in 2019.
An exceptional transport operation was carried out in Assen, Drenthe over the past few days. Two transformers, each weighing 250 tonnes, were transported to the site for the expansion of the Zeijerveen transformer station. A skillful piece of heavy transport work!

Breman Machinery in Genemuiden has been busy building a Casing Lifting Adapter over the past few months. This is a lifting tool for the installation of 190 foundation piles for the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm that is being constructed off the coast of Brittany (France). Van Oord will take care of the transport and installation of the foundations for this offshore wind farm.
The new Eemshaven - Vierverlaten high-voltage line will see a major expansion of the Vierverlaten high-voltage substation. Six giant transformers will be installed later this year, but first the transformer fields and other installations will be constructed. A transformer cabin housing all the control technology is also being installed at each field.
Wagenborg Nedlift recently put into operation a new computer-controlled jacking system, consisting of four climbing jack boxes, each with a 600-tonne capacity. With the new jacking system, objects of up to 2400 tonnes can be lifted and lowered.
Expansion work on the nitrogen plant in Zuidbroek, Groningen, is in full swing. The nitrogen plant processes imported gas for the Dutch network. The planned expansion is expected to be completed in 2022.
